Pixiey's Crazy Challenge!!

For 2013 one of my friends created a challenge based on reading books. The rule was to read a title beginning with the chosen letter of the alphabet. I thought that was great, to be honest since I have started drawing last year, I have not read as often. Then I got an idea!!  I know amazing right? LOL  So I created this challenge with art!!

The rules are pretty open, you pick two (or sometimes 3) letters of the alphabet each month and use tangles starting with that letter also. You can choose whatever size your drawing to be. It could be a regular tile, or it could be massive!! All up to you!   It is a great way to discover new patterns, remember old favorites too!

I will be posting mine here. I am hoping to have the first one done in a couple of days, I have it all inked out pretty much, just need to add the color.

Here is my first entry into this challenge! I used all patterns that start with b. Some of them are: BB Navels, Brayd, Binal, Btl Joos Brick, Box Spiral, Btweed, Bateek, Bzzz, Bushy,  a. nd Birdee Feet.  The sun, grass, cup and clouds are the only things in the picture that are not a b...but they had to be added!  This took about 2 hour in pencil, 2 hours to ink, and about 25 hours to color. I like to listen to Pandora Radio or watch Netflix while drawing. I have to admit, I watched Disney's Alice In Wonderland while coloring all day yesterday!  Each color has about 8 layers, I start really light and then continue on. I love my electric sharpener, would be lost without it. When I use a manual one, I end up wrecking the pencil because I have a hard time holding the pencil properly. The numbness in both my hands mess with that pretty bad. Oh I have Prismacolor colored pencils but I have been saving them and so I used my box of Crayola colored pencils on Blick Drawing paper 80 lb. I really enjoy that papeburer, I can get a lot of layering of color with it. Not to mention the black does not bleed through usually.

Now I must pick a new letter...hmmm..oh you can head over to http://www.rainbowelephant.com/
then to the lineweaving forums to see more entries to this challenge! I was happily surprised to see more folks interested in my little challenge!  The art and the letters themselves are just lovely!

Have a great day!!

February 4, 2013,

Here is my second entry into my challenge I used the letter n and looked through one of my manga art books to create a couple of critters. The one on the bottom right is named Nermal, and the one on the left is Nutty. This is how "Nermal And Nuttie's Wacky Day" began to form. I learned how to draw Nemo on my Dragoart website and think he turned out pretty good. The narwhal is from watching anime and looking at fan art. All the patterns begin with n. Nekton, nipa, neuron, 'nzeppel,  night n day, ninja, nurkley, Color of course is by Crayola colored pencils because I now go through colors that are bright and cheery once a month. I wish I could afford to use Prismas all the time, but there is just no way! LOL I hope you enjoy this...I still have plans to create two more this month.

Here is my latest additon to my crazy challenge working my way through the alphabet. This time it is the letter Q. There are not many animals that begin with this letter so I only have two in this drawing. One being a quail. I love them, where I live there are many. They are very protective of their little ones, I sometimes see two mothers out with their babies for a daily stroll here in the neighborhood. One mother in the front and the other at the end keeping the little ones in a line formation crossing the road from one hutch to another. If a car should come and interrupt their daily routine, the mothers quickly move them along to the side clucking the whole time to get the babies faster across the way, or over to the side of the road. It is quite darling. I do enjoy watching how they perceive the world.

The other animal yous see comes from Australia. The quoll. They are really interesting, they are marsupials and mainly carnivores. They are solitary animals and only get together on rare occasions. The mothers usually give birth to 18 pups but only 6 survive. That is quite sad. They are very cute to look at from afar, as I am sure their bites are painful!!
Q Is For Quoll
Who knows what I will pick for the next letter!!

C Is For Cake!!

Here is my latest entry into my challenge...the letter c!  Not a whole lot to say, had a heck of a time with some of the patterns...the celtic things were really hard!  No idea if anyone is seeing these.

Hope your day is sunny! It is raining here...blah!
